| The
Lowdown on Data Recovery |
| Data
recovery is not a guaranteed venture.
Depending on how the data was lost
and how |
|
long
it has been since
the problem occurred, you may get
all, some, or none of your data
back. We only consider data recovery
if it is absolutely necessary. We'd
much rather prefer that you try
our online backup program dataBASE
for free.
|
|
| However,
if the circumstances arrive and you
think you may need data recovery,
please |
|
do
yourself a big favour and STOP
using your device immediately!
This refers to anything you may
have data stored on, including your
PC, handheld PDA, laptop, memory
stick, iPOD, etc. You could inadvertently
destroy your own files by continuing
to use whatever device is giving
you problems. Our advice is to call
us immediately for more direction
at 1-866-991-0219.

|
| To
give you an idea of different ways
you can lose important files, here
is a short list of |
|
real-life
examples as experienced by our customers:
-
Accidental file deletion
- Stolen
desktop or laptop
- Virus
or Trojan
- Power
surge
- Flooding
|
- Lost
handheld or laptop
- Disgruntled
co-worker
- Files
"'just disappeared"
- Computer
freezes
- Physical
destruction of device
|
- Fire
- Overwritten
file
- Software
crash
- Explosion
- Hardware
failure
|
| As
you can see, there are a lot
of different threats to your
important computer files and |
they are much more fragile than
we realize. The picture to the left
illustrates a typical computer hard
disk that would store
pictures, videos, documents, and
all other files a user might create
or
|
|
save. Data is stored on those
rotating platters (disks)
by magnetic pulses. Your files
are written to
and read from the platters
as they spin at an incredible
rate. The silver device that
looks like an arrow is called
the read/write heads. They
glide over the surface of
the platters by only millionths
of an inch, with the gap created
simply by the air passing
between the platter and the
heads. |
Considering
the complicated nature of these
devices and the sheer number of
things that can go wrong, you may

| A
site survey is equivalent to a yearly
physical. We examine your business
environment |
|
and
look for your strengths and weaknesses
in regards to data availability
and security. A typical site-survey
will take 1/2 to a full day to complete
to ensure we have covered all angles.
Every site-survey will include the
following categories:
|
|
|
Physical
Security
|
Asset
Security

| What
are Local Recovery Discs? |
| A
Local Recovery Disc (LRD) is a CD
or DVD copy of all of your files that
you have |
|
backed
up with our online backup service
(for a free 30 day trial,
This is a useful disc to have if
you or your business needs to recover
large amounts of files within minutes
of a disaster. You can recover your
files much faster from disc than
downloading from the Internet.
|
|
| A
good example would be a customer who
has 50 GB of data saved to dataBASE
and |
|
has
just experienced a hard drive failure
containing 30 GB of the files backed
up to us. That is quite a lot of
data to begin with, and it would
take a while to download over the
Internet. It can be done but no
matter how fast your Internet connection
is, it could take days to restore
that amount of data. This
is where the LRD's come in.
If you had an LRD, you could insert
the disc into a working PC and restore
all your files within minutes, not
days.
|
| To
get an immediate delivery of your
Local Recovery Disc, or start receiving
them on a |
|
regular
basis, please call us at 1-866-991-0219.
If you have not yet subscribed to
dataBASE, our online backup service
(a requirement for receiving LRDs),
give it a
try FREE for 30 days!
